Our History
In January 2022, a handful of Santa Rosa parents began swapping stories about our scary encounters trying to ride around town with our kids on bikes. Then, in the course of just a couple weeks, two kids were hit by cars traveling to and from schools in our area. Both endured 'minor' injuries -- a broken leg and some shattered teeth -- but we knew it could have been much worse.
We decided to stop simply complaining about the lack of safe and low-stress bicycling infrastructure in Santa Rosa and start organizing to fix the problem.
We started asking around and found out that our friends, neighbors, and colleagues were equally excited about the idea of making Santa Rosa a safer place to ride -- for everyone of all ages and abilities. Before long, we began gathering for family-friendly rides and strategy discussions, and Bikeable Santa Rosa was born.
